The early 1970's saw a dramatic rise in petrol prices, and although this had an adverse affect on some Capri models (such as the RS3100) the cars with smaller engines were good sellers. Until October 1975 the lowest specification Capri was the 1300L, but Ford added an even lower specificaion 1300 - presumably to capitalise on the sales of small engines Capri's during the oil crisis.
