The Essex V6 lived on in the 3.0 Capris, Ford quoted a 0-60 time of 8.5 seconds, and a top speed of 122 mph. A large range of optional extras were available on the 3 litre X-Pack capris. Improvements such as Triple Weber 42 DNCF twin-choke carburettors lead to an increased top speed of 130 mph and a 0-60 time of just 7.4 seconds.
The 3000 litre continued to head the engine line-up until the arrival of the 2.8 injection in June 1981
